"Girl Reclining (Louise O'Murphy)"

François Boucher - Oil

Girl Reclining (Louise O'Murphy) (1751) is an oil on canvas painting by François Boucher. This particular pose was one of Boucher's favorite themes. It occurs repeatedly in his works. The painting represents the portrait of Louise O'Murphy, a young Irish woman who worked as Boucher's model and She was also the mistress (1753) of Louis XV. The artist does not present her as a Venus of classical beauty but portrays her instead in a provocative pose of unambiguously erotic persuasion as a young woman. This painting (59.5 x 73.5 cm) is Now in the collection of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne.
