"Shimmering Substance"

Jackson Pollock (i) - Oil On Canvas (i) - 30 x 24 cm - 1946 - Abstract Expressionism (i)
Shimmering Substance is one of Pollock's earlier drip works after he shifted from representational work. He started his period of drip painting where he would drip, drop and splash paint over the canvas placed on the floor while moving around the canvas, creating choreography on canvas. It has one of the brightest colour palettes compared to his other works. It is one of seven canvases from his Sounds in the Grass series. The painting, although seeming random, can reveal the order and control that Pollock had over his art, while still pursuing a free-flowing movement, here he displays an allusion to light and nature, this was most likely prompted by his stay in East Hampton. The yellow colours mixed with earthy tones may conjure up images of a sunny summer day.
