"Number 8"

Jackson Pollock (i) - Oil (i) - Abstract Expressionism (i)
Jackson Pollock is known for his paintings made by dripping and dropping paint across a canvas from cans, brushes or sticks. These works represent the height of his career, where he freed his work from restrictions of form and content. Number 8 is a pattern dominated by greens, with black, yellow and rust. The sheer size of the painting shows the influence that artists like Orozco and Rivera had on him. The colours are woven in a masterful pattern, never extending outside the canvas, the lines always curve back inwards, creating the illusion of a never-ending line. The lines vary in thickness, almost forming another shape but Pollock never stops the flow of the lines and allows the piece to continue its movement.
