Jackson Pollock - Oil

One. Number 31 I some of his larger-scale drip paintings where he would drip, drop and splash paint over a canvas over the floor, it is a prominent example of Pollock's Abstract Expressionist work. It was made in his barn studio in East Hampton, New York, it is a mix of tans, blues, and greys lashed through with black and white, the black and white paint was splashed in the presence of Hans Namuth, a photographer who was invited to document Pollock's work and studio, he described Pollock's act as ' a dance-like fashion. Art historian Stephen Policari suggested that it represents "a kind of frozen dynamic equilibrium of endless rhythm and energy", while other scholars suggest that the interwoven colours contribute a fullness and power while still being elegant and meticulous. Although One. Number 31, like his other work, has no main focus, no repetition, it still carries an underlying sense of order and harmony.
