Il vero nome di Caravaggio è Michelangelo Merisi. Ha ricevuto il suo soprannome a causa del luogo in cui è nato - Caravaggio, situato vicino a Milano. Ha lavorato come muratore, ma il suo amore per la creatività e l'arte lo segue. Ha studiato arte da persone che dipingevano murales, aiutandole a mescolare i colori. A quel tempo, il poema erotico "Adone" passò di mano in mano, quando l'instancabile artista lesse il poema, decise di ritrarre questo giovane, che si chinò sul ruscello per bere l'acqua, e vedendo il suo riflesso, cade in ama se stesso con tale forza che il suo interesse per l'intero ambiente si perde. Guarda il suo riflesso con sorpresa, come se lo vedesse per la prima volta, ne fosse incantato e sorpreso.
Questa sensazione non gli porta né felicità né sentimenti di soddisfazione. Secondo la leggenda, dopo la morte del giovane, si reincarna in un fiore delicato, a lui intitolato. Così, fu vendicato da una donna che era diventata infelice per un amore non corrisposto, e pregò la dea Nemesi di punire l'uomo orgoglioso.
Nella sua immagine, Caravaggio divide il mondo in due parti, il reale e lo specchio, che ci aiutano a capire e vedere il più possibile tutte le cose che ci circondano. Guardando gli eventi, come al solito, non notiamo molto, che è visibile in uno stato invertito. È questa visione che aiuta a vedere e comprendere più profondamente alcune caratteristiche delle cose.
L'artista mostra la tensione dell'eroe, la sua insoddisfazione interiore per lo stato delle cose. Il principale vantaggio della tela è la contemplazione di una posizione invertita, che, come si è scoperto, mette tutto al suo posto, nel rapporto tra il creatore e la sua creazione. Questo lavoro mostra una visione non tradizionale dell'artista sulla situazione reale. “Narcissus” è attualmente conservato nella Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica di Roma, Italia.
Per capire meglio la sua arte, per sapere che tipo di persona era è importante. La creazione di capolavori a Caravaggio fu accompagnata da vita tumultuosa, scontri e lotte, multe e conclusioni. Era un ferimento con la spada di un uomo che aveva risposto male sui suoi quadri, di scrivere poesie offensive sul Baglione, di picchiare il notaio Pasqualone, in una rissa in un'osteria. Ogni volta veniva salvato dal carcere dai Cardinali e dal Giustiniani. Borromeo Vescovo di Milano, che conobbe Caravaggio all'epoca della sua vita romana, lo descrisse come “un uomo slegato, dai modi rudi, sempre vestito di stracci e che vive dove è necessario. Disegnando ragazzi di strada, frequentatori di taverne e miserabili vagabondi, sembrava un uomo felice”. I temi principali delle tele di Caravaggio erano domestici e religiosi. Borromeo ha ammesso che non gli piaceva tutto nei dipinti dell'artista. Doveva costantemente nascondersi e spostarsi da un posto all'altro ed è morto all'età di 38 anni.
