Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - pintor, escultor, artista gráfico, artista de teatro, ceramista e designer espanhol. Ele nasceu na Espanha, mas viveu a maior parte de sua vida na França, por isso é freqüentemente chamado de artista francês. O fundador do cubismo, em que o corpo tridimensional de forma original foi desenhado como uma série de planos combinados. Chamou à vida muitos imitadores e influenciou o desenvolvimento das belas-artes no século XX. Picasso teve certa fama não só por seu trabalho, mas também por numerosos casos de amor.
Em maio de 2015, um novo recorde mundial foi estabelecido no leilão da Christie's em Nova York - apenas 11 minutos após a abertura do leilão com um preço inicial de $ 100 milhões, a pintura de Pablo Picasso “As Mulheres de Argel (Versão O)” foi vendida por $ 179.365.000. No momento, é considerada a pintura mais cara do mundo, vendida em leilão. Como a famosa tela apareceu e quem inspirou o artista a criá-la é um objeto de atenção não menos interessante do que o comprador que comprou a pintura por um dinheiro fabuloso e desejou permanecer anônimo. "Mulheres argelinas" é uma série de duas litografias e 15 pinturas, pintadas em 1954–1955. Eles foram unidos por um nome e designados em ordem alfabética por letras de "A" a "O". Uma série de obras inspirou a pintura homônima de Eugene Delacroix em 1834, que retrata concubinas no harém oriental. Viajando pelo norte da África, Delacroix visitou o sultão na Argélia. Lá ele viu concubinas no harém, o que o inspirou a criar a tela. Essa obra foi um marco na história das belas-artes, Matisse, Renoir, Picasso e Vrubel ficaram encantados com ela.
No entanto, a pintura de Eugene Delacroix não foi a única fonte de inspiração para Picasso. Para as pinturas da série “As Mulheres de Argel”, a esposa do artista, Jacqueline Rock, posou para ele, que se parecia muito com a mulher com uma blusa clara de Delacroix. Segundo especialistas, a 15ª versão de "As Mulheres de Argel" é a obra mais significativa de Picasso, localizada em uma coleção particular, "o ponto culminante da série e uma obra absolutamente notável." Esta obra do artista espanhol fazia parte da coleção particular de Victor e Sally Ganz, que a comprou de Picasso em 1956 por 212,5 mil dólares. Foi vendido em 1977 após a morte dos cônjuges. E em 2015, essa obra se tornou a obra de arte mais cara do mundo, vendida em leilão. As pinturas de Pablo Picasso sempre estiveram entre as mais caras do mundo - por exemplo, em 2009 suas duas obras estavam no top 10 das pinturas mais caras.
