Eine Nacht im Bahnhofscafé von Arles ist ein Versuch des niederländischen postimpressionistischen Malers Vincent Van Gogh, seine Eindrücke über Ort und Leute, die Besucher, zu vermitteln. Der Autor selbst besuchte dieses Café oft und erstellte mehrere Porträts (von Besitzern der Institution, regelmäßigen Besuchern usw.). Für den Meister ist dieses Café ein Ort des Zusammenbruchs der Hoffnungen, an dem die Besucher versuchen, der Realität schnell zu entfliehen.
Das Cafe ist sehr bescheiden, die einzige Unterhaltung für die Gäste war das alte und abgewohnte Billard. Die Uhr, das Must-Have für die Orte in Bahnhofsnähe, zeigt an, dass es Mitternacht ist. Einige Besucher sind mit ihrem Geschäft beschäftigt. Am Tisch ist schon jemand eingeschlafen, das Paar in der hinteren Ecke unterhält sich, der Mann in der Mitte steht dem Betrachter gegenüber. Er überlegt verwirrt, ob der Künstler oder Betrachter des Gemäldes.
Für den Meister war Farbe seit jeher ein wichtiges Mittel, um seine Emotionen und seine Einstellung zur Handlung seines Werkes auszudrücken. Wenn wir aufmerksamer in das Bild blicken, beginnt die Atmosphäre des Abgestandenen, des Verfalls und der Depression den Betrachter zu umhüllen. Billard wird zum Sarg, Grün- und Rottöne vervollständigen den deprimierenden Eindruck. Und die Uhr zählt die letzten Stunden des Lebens aller Anwesenden im Café. Das Vorherrschen von Grün im Bild ist kein Zufall. Es ist ein solcher Grünton, der ein Gefühl der Selbstzerstörung und Einsamkeit vermittelt. Zur selben Zeit. Die knallroten Wände vermitteln Angstgefühle, die unglückliche Besucher schnell vergessen werden.
Die für den Meister neue Farbe der Arbeit und die geschickte Verzerrung des Raumes, die es ermöglicht, die Idee der Arbeit deutlicher zu machen, lassen uns das Bild als das erste Beispiel in der Kunstgeschichte betrachten, um ein Leinwand, die einen ganzen Stil zum Leben erweckte - den Expressionismus.
Laut Van Gogh selbst wurde das Gemälde „The Night Cafe“ geschaffen, um die Wirkung eines Blicks auf die Umgebung einer öffentlichen Einrichtung durch die Augen eines betrunkenen Mannes zu vermitteln, dessen Gedanken zum Verständnis des Geschehens und sein Geist getrübt sind durch starkes Trinken.
Weder die klaren Umrisse der Gesichter der Besucher noch die Linien des Innenraums sind im Gemälde zu erkennen. Das gleiche sehen diejenigen, die sich entschieden haben, an diesem Abend ein Café zu besuchen. Im Hintergrund des Bildes ist viel Alkohol abgebildet. Offensichtlich gibt Van Gogh damit einen weiteren Hinweis, um den Zweck der Ankunft von Menschen in diesem Café zu spüren. Er stellt dieses Bild mit den Augen eines Besuchers dar, der ganz am Ende der Halle sitzt und alles beobachtet, was in diesem „nebligen“ Raum passiert. Darüber hinaus hat jeder Kunde, dargestellt von Van Gogh, anscheinend seine eigene spezifische Lebensgeschichte, die sich radikal von der Geschichte des anderen Besuchers unterscheidet, der sich nach dem Willen des Schicksals in derselben Nacht im „The Night Cafe“ befand.Das Kunstwerk gehört derzeit der Yale University Art Gallery in den Vereinigten Staaten.
