Una notte nel caffè della stazione di Arles è un tentativo del pittore post-impressionista olandese Vincent Van Gogh di trasmettere le sue impressioni sul luogo e sulle persone, i frequentatori. L'autore stesso ha spesso visitato questo caffè e ha creato diversi ritratti (di proprietari dell'istituzione, visitatori abituali, ecc.). Per il maestro, questo caffè è un luogo del crollo delle speranze, dove i frequentatori cercano di fuggire rapidamente dalla realtà.
Il caffè è molto modesto, l'unico intrattenimento per gli ospiti era il vecchio e malandato biliardo. L'orologio, il must-have per i locali vicino alla stazione, indica che è passata la mezzanotte. Alcuni visitatori sono occupati dai loro affari. Qualcuno si è già addormentato al tavolo, la coppia nell'angolo più lontano sta conversando, l'uomo al centro è rivolto verso lo spettatore. Contempla confusamente se l'artista o gli spettatori del dipinto.
Per il maestro, il colore è sempre stato un mezzo importante per esprimere le sue emozioni e l'atteggiamento nei confronti della trama del suo lavoro. Quando osserviamo l'immagine con maggiore attenzione, l'atmosfera di stantio, decadimento e depressione inizia ad avvolgere lo spettatore. Il biliardo si trasforma in una bara, i toni del verde e del rosso completano l'impressione deprimente. E l'orologio conta le ultime ore della vita di tutti i presenti al caffè. La predominanza del verde nella foto non è casuale. È una tale sfumatura di verde che dà una sensazione di autodistruzione e solitudine. Allo stesso tempo. Le pareti rosso vivo danno sensazioni di paura e ansia, che i visitatori infelici dimenticheranno presto per un po'.

Non è possibile vedere nel dipinto né i contorni chiari dei volti dei visitatori né le linee dell'interno. Lo stesso è visto da coloro che hanno deciso di visitare un caffè quella notte. Sullo sfondo dell'immagine è raffigurato molto alcol. Evidentemente, con questo, Van Gogh dà un ulteriore indizio per sentire lo scopo dell'arrivo delle persone in questo caffè. Descrive questa immagine attraverso gli occhi di un visitatore seduto in fondo alla sala, che osserva tutto ciò che accade in questa stanza "nebbiosa". Inoltre, ogni cliente, raffigurato da Van Gogh, apparentemente ha una sua specifica storia di vita, radicalmente diversa dalla storia dell'altro visitatore, che per volere del destino si è rivelato essere nella stessa notte in "The Night Cafe".L'opera attualmente appartiene alla Yale University Art Gallery negli Stati Uniti.
