Alte Pinakothek is an art museum located in the Kunstareal area in Munich, Germany. It is one of the oldest galleries in the world and houses a significant collection of Old Master paintings. The name Alte (Old) Pinakothek refers to the time period covered by the collection—from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.
Alte Pinakothek is part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections, an organization of the Free state of Bavaria. The museum complex contains ten courtyards and displays 130 rooms. The three main parts are the Königsbau (near the Max-Joseph-Platz), the Alte Residenz (Old Residenz; towards the Residenzstraße) and the Festsaalbau (towards the Hofgarten).
Alte Pinakothek is home to more than 800 masterpieces from European painters, including works by Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Jan Van Goyen, Hans Von Aachen, and Peter Paul Rubens.
